Border changes from yellow to silver

The most significant change in the Scarlet & Violet Series is that the familiar yellow borders have been replaced with silver borders to match the Japanese edition and every pack of Pokémon cards will now contain three guaranteed foil cards, along with an increased MSRP for products.

Yellow border cards in English sets have been introduced from the Base Set until now.
Starting from Scarlet & Violet Base Set, we will be looking at silver border cards!

Pokémon ex gameplay mechanic is back!

The Pokémon ex gameplay mechanic, which was previously mentioned, will be back in Scarlet & Violet. It will appear in each stage of Evolution and have a high HP as well as strong attacks and Abilities. A Pokémon ex, on the other hand, offers out two Prize cards as opposed to one when it is knocked out.

Koraidon ex, Miraidon ex and Arcanine ex (Fire Tera Type) are confirmed to be in this set looking at the Japanese version. Also the artwork showcases Gyarados with Water Tera Type Form. This suggests Gyarados ex as a Terastal card might come similar to Arcanine ex being revealed earlier in the Japanese version.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet releases on March 31, 2023.

Scarlet & Violet Series card design changes

A number of card design updates were also announced by The Pokémon Company International, and they will be adopted starting with the Scarlet & Violet expansion.

To match the cards published in Japan, the yellow borders on Pokémon Trading Card Game cards will change to silver. This will create a more consistent Pokémon TCG experience worldwide while enhancing the card artwork.

Additionally, subcategories for Trainer cards, like Supporter, Item, and Stadium, will show up in the top left corner to be more visible in players’ hands, Basic Energy cards will show another Energy symbol in the bottom right corner to make it simpler to track energy during gameplay, also the top of the card will now display the name of the Energy. Expansion symbols will be swapped out for expansion codes and language codes across all cards. Also the revealed ex cards show a double star rarity.

Booster Pack price change and content change

Lastly, with the introduction of the Scarlet & Violet series, Pokémon Trading Card Game products will experience various price hikes in some areas due to global inflation’s impact on the cost of materials and production. For instance, a booster pack’s price will rise for 0.5 to 1 € (we will see how this change will affect the prices in PokeBros webshop, but we will try to maintain the current prices as long as we can). Every pack of Pokémon cards will now contain three guaranteed foil cards every booster—all cards with a rarity of “Rare” or higher will now be foil—in an effort to maintain the quality and value of the Pokémon TCG experience.

Elite Trainer Box content change

A full-art promo card and an additional booster pack, for instance, will be included in the Elite Trainer Box.
